Come experience the joys of horseback riding at Horse Camp! Camp St. Croix DayCroix riding programs are progressively structured to provide campers with a fun experience of interacting with gentle horses. Instructors are trained in horsemanship and carefully match the experience level of the child with an appropriate horse. Instruction is provided at the staging area and on the horses.

Safety is our top priority at Horse Camp. For all horse programs, we require that participants wear leather shoes or boots with heels. Long pants and protective helmets (helmets provided by camp) are required of all participants. Our horse camp is a progressive recreational riding program and is not intended to replace formal riding lessons.
Alternative programs may be planned if weather conditions such as heat, rain, or wind jeopardize the safety of campers or horses.

Previous Colts experience preferred.  Important note for Colts and Buckaroos program:  Not all instruction is done on horseback, and most will not ride on Monday. With safety in mind, some campers will need extra time to develop skills on the ground before getting on a horse. The staff determines all riding time, based on the ability of the riders and the current weather situations such as rain and heat. Generally, campers are with the horses for the specified times, four times a week. Please keep this in mind when registering.  Back to Day Camp Top >

Family Nights

Part of the fun of camp is showing your family all the exciting things you have been experiencing. On Thursdays at 4:30 p.m., Wee Backpackers, Day Camp and Specialty Camps campers will join their families for a picnic dinner, tour of the camp, and a campfire program. Campers staying for the overnight will not participate in the camper show. Your camper is eligible if he/she is an Eagle, Teen Quest or attending a Specialty Camp for 4th-6th graders and Teen Specialties. Camp St. Croix will provide a BBQ at no cost.

For Colt and Buckaroos campers, Thursday nights bring a chance to showcase all they have learned about horses in a horse show presented to families. The show runs from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Parents are welcome to join us prior to the horse show for the picnic.  Come and share these experiences with your DayCroix camper!  Back to Day Camp Top >

Overnight Camp   sunset cheer

The rich camp traditions of over 100 years influence current overnight camp programming at Camp St. Croix. Once campers arrive, they realize they are part of a community linked together by common experiences, lifelong friendships, an appreciation for nature and spirit, mind, body and personal growth and enrichment through challenging and fun activities.
YMCA Camp St. Croix offers a wide variety of exciting activities that build confidence, cooperation, and care--making new friends, building on renewed friendships, and having a caring environment where your child can be themselves are high points of the camping experience.

The one and two-week and one month sessions are divided into units for different age levels. Younger campers are guided through a variety of experiences; older campers choose between specialized canoeing, sailing, rock climbing, horseback riding and backpacking units which offer progressive challenges.  Each time your child comes back to Camp St. Croix they can achieve a new level of achievement by progressing into a new, longer trail program! All of our activities at Camp St. Croix nurture character development and encourage all campers to step outside their comfort zones to have new experiences, increase self-confidence and care for others.

Adventure Camps

Since 1909, Camp St. Croix has been exploring our local wilderness areas through the use of canoes, and most recently through sailing, kayaking, rock climbing, horseback riding and backpacking.  We believe in progressive camping where youth and teens are able to experience age-appropriate activities and are given the opportunity to challenge themselves each time they come back to camp. We offer a number of adventure camp areas that have a progression from beginner to advanced levels.

First time campers and more experienced campers welcome!  Please note that participation in one of our beginner camps is not a prerequisite to the other levels if the camper has equivalent experience in that area. When time permits all adventure campers participate in traditional in-camp activities.
